Nation Leading Growth in Housing Construction Continues in Saskatchewan

Year-Over-Year Increase in Housing Starts Ranks First Among the Provinces  

According to the latest data released today by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, housing starts in Saskatchewan saw growth of 65.5 per cent in August 2026 compared to August 2025.  

"With Saskatchewan attracting record private investment, this is one of the most exciting periods in the history of our province," Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said. "More and more people are choosing to live, work and raise a family here in our province because of the robust growth we are experiencing in our economy. This population growth is being supported by our construction sector, which continues to build housing at a rapid pace to help protect Saskatchewan and its people."

The province has now ranked either first or second nationally for year-over-year housing start growth for three consecutive months.

Housing starts with multiple units increased by 116.7 per cent between August 2025 and August 2026.

Housing starts are a measure of the number of new housing builds where construction has begun. 

Statistics Canada's latest Gross Domestic Product numbers indicate that Saskatchewan's 2025 real GDP reached an all-time high of $85.4 billion. This was an increase of 2.2 per cent, putting the province well above the national average of 1.7 per cent. 

Private capital investment in Saskatchewan increased last year by 12 per cent to $13.6 billion, ranking first among provinces. Efforts behind the province's Securing the Next Decade of Growth: Saskatchewan's Investment Attraction Strategy are driving that momentum.
